The teaching environment at the Chiropractic Center, under the guidance of licensed doctors of chiropractic, enables interns to practice chiropractic care under close supervision and constant consultation. By serving the public, the clinic provides residents of Upstate South Carolina access to high-quality chiropractic care at affordable rates, delivering approximately 30,000 patient visits annually.
"As our students transition into their clinical internships at the Sherman College Chiropractic Center, they take a major step forward in their professional journey," said Sherman President Dr. Jack Bourla. "Through rigorous academic preparation and hands-on training, they are equipped to provide safe, effective, and compassionate chiropractic care to the people of Spartanburg and the surrounding communities. These interns represent the next generation of principled chiropractors-committed, capable, and ready to serve, sharing the philosophy, science, and art of chiropractic. We are proud of their accomplishments and excited to see them begin this important phase of their education and calling."
In Sherman's clinical phase of the doctor of chiropractic program, interns practice every aspect of patient care, including case histories, physical and spinal examinations, x-rays, diagnosis, reports of findings, chiropractic adjustments, and case management. Interns are encouraged to collaborate with Sherman's research department to advance the profession through evidence-based studies, while also completing the remaining clinical and business courses before graduation.
The chiropractic internship also allows these students to participate in community events, both in the Chiropractic Center and off campus - including spinal screenings, health fairs, school visits, and more - to help them build communication, leadership and community relations skills so they will be well prepared when they begin practicing as a doctor of chiropractic.
