Sherman College of Chiropractic Announces New Endowed Scholarship by Dr. Sam Wang '01, Co-Founder of Chiro One Wellness Centers
Spartanburg, SC (07/11/2024) — Sherman College of Chiropractic is proud to announce the establishment of a new endowed scholarship created to support students excelling as interns in the college's Chiropractic Center. The scholarship is funded thanks to a generous donation from Sherman 2001 graduate Dr. Sam Wang, D.C., co-founder of Chiro One Wellness Centers, a network of over 50 chiropractic clinics across the Midwest.
"On behalf of Sherman College of Chiropractic, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sam Wang for his generosity in establishing the Chiro One Wellness Center endowed scholarship that will impact our interns for years to come," says Sherman President Dr. Jack Bourla. "Dr. Wang's commitment to supporting our students exemplifies the spirit of giving that propels Sherman and the chiropractic profession forward."
"Chiro One Wellness Centers' vision is that all human beings discover their full potential. We support that vision by providing corrective wellness-based chiropractic services and resources," explains. Dr. Wang. "Our goal is to share the importance of an optimally functioning spine and nervous system and play an integral role in the overall wellness of individuals, companies and communities."
Dr. Wang believes that support for the future leaders of chiropractic is a crucial part of the growing paradigm shift toward chiropractic being the premier choice in wellness. Chiro One Wellness Centers has established the fund with an initial donation of $5,000 in 2024 and intends to add funds each year to reach a minimum endowment level of $50,000. In order to provide immediate opportunities to students, Chiro One has also funded an annual scholarship of $1,000 that will be awarded each fall until the endowed scholarship fund is able to support the scholarship from perpetuity. The new scholarship will be awarded each fall to a Sherman College upper-quarter student who exemplifies exceptional patient care in the Chiropractic Health Center.
Dr. Sam Wang attended The University of Iowa with initial plans to pursue a career in medicine. However, during school, he suffered a personal injury due to a motor vehicle accident, which led to his discovery of chiropractic. After completion of his bachelor's degree, Dr. Wang attended Sherman College of Chiropractic, where he graduated with honors. He holds board certifications as an Atlas Orthogonist and independent medical examiner. Dr. Wang is an extension faculty member at eight academic institutions and is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractors Association, Illinois Chiropractic Society, and was named 2011 Chiropractor of the Year by Sherman College.
Sherman's Chiropractic Center is a hands-on teaching clinic for chiropractic interns who are in their final stage of study prior to graduation from the doctor of chiropractic program. The teaching environment, coordinated by licensed doctors, allows interns to practice chiropractic under close supervision and ongoing consultation. Operated as a true chiropractic practice, students gain exposure to the daily aspects of running a practice while simultaneously refining their interpersonal and clinical skills in caring for patients at every stage of life, from pediatric to geriatric.
